I love my job so much. Even more so, I love when our new people (staff) really start getting interested in library advocacy (even if they dont know that thats what it is). Case in point: one of our newish library assistants was telling me about a college classmate of his that was putting together a persuasive argument about why libraries wont be around in the future. He wanted to refute this argument, but being new, he didnt have much compelling evidence to back up his argument. Of course, I offered my examples, including libraries as local history sources (especially for small communities with no historical society or history museum), libraries as community gathering places/3rd spaces, libraries narrowing the digital divide, etc. Knowing how many library advocates are in this group, I seek your wisdom. I want to provide him as many reasons as possible to refute his classmates argument. So, give me MORE reasons why libraries are still relevant and will be around in the future (links to articles are wonderful, too). Thanks in advance, collective!
