I love snowboarding!!! My girlfriend wanted to try it so we went to Montage for lessons for her birthday. Bethany, our instructor, made learning lots of fun! We did an hour and a half lesson, but we were doing so well that Bethany decided to stay for nearly another 30 minutes working with us because we got her excited. I heard how hard it was to learn and expected to get pretty beat up with falls, but I guess surfing skills brought something to the table. My girlfriend was great with edging right off as a skier and figure skating coach. Anyway, we learned about the equipment, board flexibility, skating, climbing, straight runs, toe and heel side turns, falling, standing up, hopping, doing all turns with both feet strapped, falling leaf and garlands, then finished with linking the turns together. We took a break then returned to the slopes for another 1.5 hours of practice on our own. I fell about 7 times out of lots of runs. Once REALLY hard at the end of the day going fast when I rushed a transition on the edge work. Twice I had real falls. The others were just gentle when going just beyond the sweet spot while working on turns. I expected lots of hard falls and for falls to dominate the experience. Nope! Lots of fun! If you are even thinking about trying it - just go do it! We managed to cover two skill levels in one lesson. We paid for group lessons, but it was just the two of us. If you are thinking about it on a weekend and want to get beyond just standing up with two feet strapped in, you may want private lessons or to go during the week. I kept hearing a little Mosrite twang and reverb all day without the sharks beneath. :-)
