I love these photos. They are powerful and show exactly how we have all felt at one point or another in our EMS careers. I too have sat in the back of a bloody squad with my head in my hands in utter despair....just like shown here. Wondering what the hell I couldve changed. If I could have done something different. How is that elderly lady gonna live without her husband of 50 yrs? How is the mother going to go to sleep with empty arms where her 3 month old used to be?? How can I tell my daughter that her 16 year old classmate is dead from a horrific accident and the blood Iam coated in is her friends? How do you unsee the blood? The death? The abuse? The cruelty? The little girl with two black eyes who looked at me and smiled. Her head injury so severe that all her front teeth fell out. Her skull fractured as well as her sternum and ribs....because her babysitter was driving too fast and hit a tree so hard...how that little bloody hand reached for mine and how she called me mommy as she died.
