I love this comment from The Mutty Professor and would like to share it with you as well as Julie Blackstocks photo - Most dogs I see tied up outside shops look confused, worried and vulnerable. Many of them vocalise their distress at what must feel like being momentarily abandoned. It must be overwhelming for some having all that hustle and bustle rushing right past you, sometimes people not giving enough personal space, giving direct eye contact (which can feel threatening for dogs) or even reaching out to touch- all with no support from the owner. The one thing this poster forgets to mention is that many people feel they have a right to touch dogs without getting permission first. Whilst your dog might not be reactive, if intimidated enough and without the option to move away (being tied up) some dogs will resort to self defense. And what happens for the dog then? Please dont take any risks with your dogs. If you cant take them inside with you or leave them outside with a friend or family member- leave them at home or somewhere safe (like the car if its cool enough!). Im sure most dogs would rather be alone in the safety of their home for an extra 30 minutes than being tied up to a post on the side of the street.
