I love this shot of this eventer. Even though this horse is Cracking its back over this substantial obstacle, its neck is free enough to have its eyes lowered almost level with those impressive knees! This rider maintains great form with perfect lines. Straight line from bit through unlocked elbows, line from lowered heel to hip (base over feet, stirrups short enough to help rider keep crotch well BEHIND pommel and over seat) line from toe, knee shoulder (upper body weight over base of support) and air seen between chest and crest. Hes staying completely in balance with his horse and not interfering, but also rides defensively enough, staying over his base to avoid problems in case of a misstep! One might say the riders back is rounded a bit, but remember event riders are jockeys who ride and jump solid obstacles, at high speeds over varied terrain/footing, for long periods of time. In this case 42 efforts, taking over 10 mins to complete, after roads and tracks and a steeplechase. (If thats still included?) This rider is actually maintaining an ideal parallel body to horses bascule, without touching or grabbing hold of his horse. I love the forward focus of both horse and rider concentrating on what lies ahead of them. This is a very athletic pair! :-) A great study of balanced form over a fence.
