I love those moments where the future clicks together in your mind. This week I did a quick trip to Budapest to speak at a conference-- Usually for flights over 2 hours I bring my iPad to watch some movies or read a book on. One of the things I was hoping for buying the iPhone 6+ was to no longer need that iPad for that. What I didnt expect was how game changing and smooth the experience would be. The individual components of the experience arent really groundbreaking or new. I bought a ticket using the British Airlines mobile app, saved the ticket to passbook which meant no more fuzzing around on a laptop, and no more printing or checking-in at the airport saving - that already saves a bunch of time. Going through security they scanned the QR code on the phone .. Waiting for the flight to board I caught up on some email and read some news on the phone while listening to some Ella Fitzgerald .. In the flight I watched Expendables 3 on the phone. Reading that it all sounds so straight forward-- but the fact that each and every step of the way I was using one device that was always there in my coat pocket without having to think what was where-- Never having to mail or print a ticket somewhere else-- Never having to switch to a different device that worked slightly differently-- Not even having to plug my headphones into something else. It was all so integrated, so smooth and so natural feeling that it made lights go off in my brain. Yeah .. the phone as the hub for tickets, payments, entertainment, and soon to control your home as well -- it makes sense. And the experience from the sum of the parts, its so much bigger than the individual components ever wouldve made me guess.
