I love to hear musicians that can think out of the box when doing a song cover. So many players try to recreate songs note for note in order to sound like the original recording. This is a strategy that seems doomed to failure because recordings are simply a slice in time performed in a studio with specific equipment (recording machines, mikes, amps, etc.) by specific musicians. The variables are infinite, and it is often impossible for the musicians that did the original recording to faithfully recreate the music. Better to be yourself and use your unique ability to create something new out of something old. Thanks to Jerry Vanderhoff for the video! The spoons are nice and the banjo playing single notes with a flat pick is cool, but the anvil is brilliant! Id hate to have to carry that bad boy to gigs! Thanks to my old friend Vic for the original post.
