I made some commitments with friends and family to keep up with my posts. Well, I havent been quite as good at it as I should so Ill try and be a bit better about it. The weather is holding here and things are warm and dry. So close to the Med, the weather rarely gets really bad and the most that normally happens is the occasional mistral or high wind. Ive experienced it once or twice and its impressive. It can go on for a day or a week when it comes. Just think of being in constant 50 mph winds for a week and youve got it. Ive been doing my French lessons online a few hours a day or at least as much as I can absorb and its going well. As with learning any language, the first step is to go back and refresh oneself in ones own language. (How do I decline an article? Hmmm... etc) Ive been getting out via bicycle nearly every day and roaming the countryside. Ive now gotten to the point that trips of 10 or 15 miles are not so bad and I look forward to them. I am still a bit anxious about overdoing things between now and surgery, but so far have been able to pace myself. Its mostly fairly flat going and when it gets steep I just walk the bike. After talking to my bro on the phone, I decided to include a few photos that give some sense of the topography here. Its quite dry and the landscape reminds me as much as anything of Colorado. Its rocky and there is lots of scrub vegetation everywhere. The trees are mostly short and scrubby. There are plenty of cactus and other dry-land ground covers about. The vast majority of exposed rock is limestone and behaves as such. No real topsoil to speak of as Im used to it in Wisconsin. You really have to want a lawn here to get one. Thankfully, I dont want one and the accompanying tools of torture associated with lawn maintenance.
