I may get flak for this view, but I honestly think giving African colonies their independence during the 20th century was a bad idea. With no mother country, what we now have are a bunch of poor countries run by corrupt leaders who wont let any foreign aid come through, leading to a standard of living that is below par even for the third world. Should they have gotten their independence eventually? Yes, but it shouldnt have happened yet. Maybe after their mother country helped them get on their feet, but not before.
