I mean, lets just be honest about it. Police have a difficult job. But they do make mistakes. There are good cops. But there are also bad cops. And the police never admit that they did anything wrong. The good cops never help us weed out the bad cops. That means they are complicit in the things the bad cops did. And when you give police broad latitude in enforcing the laws, including of course the authority to use lethal force, you really need a robust system of internal review. Otherwise, you get what you see in the video. The problem is that the police are not accountable when they are wrong. I dont deny that people, including black people, commit crimes. But police cannot be absolved from scrutiny merely because they do a demanding, dangerous job. We sue doctors who make mistakes even when trying their best to save patients lives. We jail airline pilots who endanger passenger safety even when they were obviously on the plane, too, and thus werent actually trying to kill anyone. We imprison soldiers who commit crimes while wearing our uniform, even if they, like most soldiers, were just trying to make the best decision from a set of uniformly crappy options. So why do we tolerate the blue wall of silence from police? Oh, right. Because they are here to protect us. Like what you see in the video. You may want to turn the sound down, as its kind of loud. But the words are worth hearing.
