I mentioned in another post that I attended a workshop this morning hosted by our University Writing Program and it was attended by many first-year comp instructors and a good number of Modern Language/ESL instructors. I was the only CW instructor there, but thought the topic was very pertinent to the work we do. The workshop was on transfer: namely, what knowledge do we expect our students to transfer *in* to our writing classes, and then what knowledge do they gain that we expect to transfer *out* of our classes? Do we see this happening? How do we know? Do students recognize it? Do other faculty? Anyone care to discuss? (I will reveal the presenters suggested best practices only after 250 comments have been posted)
