I mentioned to some friends Steve Holmes & Sarah Holmes that I was cycling through Normandy and visiting D-Day Locations. Steve then said "My Uncle Jack Lewis was an Airborne Solder killed in the Early hours of D-Day and is buried in a Church at Brucourt". So I did take the trip to pay my respects. I found The Church Of Brucourt perched on a hill surrounded by fields. At the back of the Grave Yard are 6 War Graves, Jacks is the second from the left. The information I have found is : Jack was a Private in the 224 Parachute Field Ambulance attached to the 3rd Parachute Brigade, they were dropped near Varaville in the early hours of 6th June to capture bridges and secure landing zones for gliders. The drop did not go well and after a chaotic and disorientating few hours, gradually the various elements of 224 PFA reformed. Despite missing two-thirds of their strength, the unit established an invaluable Main Dressing Station(MDS) in a barn close to Varaville that morning. Jack paid the ultimate price on the 6th June 1944, cwgc.org/find-a-cemetery/cemetery/2060910/BRUCOURT%20CHURCHYARD
