I met Dan some months before gaining admission into NAFTI. It was on the set of Khen Kudjordjis the outcome in 1989. We had a long chat and immediately became friends. Dan later become a big brother when I stumbled into a dark tunnel. The darkest moment of my life. He held the torch and helped me navigate my way out. I was practically going through NAFTI on my own. Together we found ways to survive. We sort scholarship from unthinkable places. We failed but we kept moving and hoping till I landed the Frederich Ebert Foundation Sponsorship. I perched with him and later he perched with me. Ours was a classic case of mentoring and reverse mentoring; one taught in leadership school. He allowed me to make my mistakes on his productions and gave me the opportunity to work with the very best in the industry. Through Dan I saw my opportunities. I was literally his shadow, soaking everything I could. From the sets of spellbinder through Mataa our missing children where as a student I was selected to AD for the late Mr Wallace Bampoe-Addo. Through Dan I saw at close quarters the making of some of the ground breaking productions in Ghana. I was practically hot on his heels. When he joined lintas after school i thought that was the place to work, so I joined after school. He trained at Lintas Harare and I was in the second batch. We worked closely for years and had some unforgettable experiences. Dan was always calm and rarely expressed anger. He loved to tell stories and he shared a lot with me. Incidentally the last we met was at Mr. Wallace Bampoe-Addos funeral. He never mentioned his ailment and that was typical. Always reserved. Sad, but God knows best. Dan Papa Kermah! The big brother of all. Rest in Peace.
