I met Paul Dietzel right after he and his lovely wife, Anne had moved back to Louisiana to stay. I had grown up hearing about the legend he was from my Dad and older brothers. We had lunch and spent several hours as I listened to his views on football and life. He told old stories that put details to things I had only heard of before like how the "Chinese Bandits" began. I asked a few questions but mainly just listened. I had my program from the 2004 National Championship which he willingly signed. I found him one of the more interesting persons I have talked with. One day he showed up at my office unexpectedly and gave me a numbered mural of Tiger Stadium at night signed by him. I talked to him a few times after that but the memory of when I first met him will always stay with me. He was good people. May he rest in eternal peace.
