I met a rather odd fellow yesterday at the Home Depot. He quite possibly had an unnatural appreciation for light bulbs. However, we got to talking a bit and he obliged me with some surprising information about a sale on 60 watt equivalent LED bulbs for $1.97. Now, Im not one to be too entertained by the intricacies of light bulbs, but this is quite a bargain. Many LED bulbs are well over $20 just for one. The 60 watt equivalent bulbs use 10.5 watts, they contain no mercury (unlike a compact fluorescent), they dont break into razor sharp pieces, they can be used with a dimmer switch, and the claims from the manufacturer states the longevity of these bulbs is around 23 years. Thats 8½ cents per year. Best of all is the number crunching I just did for my shop. I will be reducing my power usage for lighting significantly. Each bulb uses less than half a kilowatt of electricity FOR THE ENTIRE WEEK! That is $0.06 for a weeks worth of electricity! I changed out all of my bulbs today.
