I moved into peace walk in 1968 aged 5 We had moved from Stratford road in sparkhill, having lived in a bedsit. Moving into 24 peace walk as a 5 year old was really exciting, and I remember it as if it were yesterday. The house too me was a mansion compared to the bedsit I had lived in too date. And we had a garden! The area was at that time basically a building site, with no pathways or roads finished. There were no shops, and we had to walk to marston green for the local shop. Then slowly over time more and more people started to move into the houses I had witnessed being built, and new friendships began. All the neighbours chatted and socialised with each other, and everyone looked out for each others kids. Each day us kids would make our own entertainment and go Scrumping or fishing and sometimes golf ball hunting at marston green golf course. My happiest memories are on the wood. The community spirit was the best part of growing up on the wood. And I love the fact its still there!! All thats happened is instead of chatting over a fence, we are doing it here!! Who fancies going Scrumping one night? :)
