I must share an OPEN LETTER I recently submitted in regards to an MPD officer! First, I dont know this guy outside of this encounter! Secondly, we have got to recognize when folks are doing the right thing....let them know! Many of these officers have such a powerful light to impart or invoke change in those who need intervention. It was a pleasure to have been assigned to ride with him. October 20, 2014 Dear Colonel Mary Balee, RE: Ride Along Feedback I have been participating in Citizens Police Academy class at your precinct and it has been quite interesting to say the least. Officer Colbert has been a jewel in the community. I do not reside in this area, however, I often participate in a several community functions in the area such as career day for Airways Middle and Honors Program for Airways Middle as well. I would like to inform you on how well; Officer, Kevin Moore did on last Thursday, October 16, 2014 during the Delta Shift. I didnt know what to expect leading up to the ride along. He assured me everything would be alright. He was extremely professional and clean. He walked me to the passenger side as gentlemen often do. I watched the way he interacted with the novice or rookie officers and his level of patience and ability to be a teacher was amazing. Each call we arrived on he was consistent in his approach and desire to really care about people. My expectations were somewhat uncertain, because most citizens have generalized what we think officers do and how they are perceived. I don’t know if he is a training officer or conducts communication training, but I would highly recommend him to do so. I never heard not one vulgar word from him lips during the Delta shift. I rode from 5:30pm-1:00am. His maintained integrity with his paperwork and that alone was outstanding! I will be requesting another ride along with Officer Moore in the near future!
