I need some opinions here - I have a minimalist mindset. If something doesnt benefit my everyday survival I simply do not see a need to have it. I feel lately like alot of stuff I have is weighing me down. Most of it is things that people have given to me over the years. Stuff that I would not actually buy for myself. I do not do knick knacks or clutter. So alot of these things are boxed up and tucked away in closets. I simply keep them because someone along the line seen it in their heart to share something with me. I have even gone as far as to telling the people close to me that I no longer accept gifts even on holidays. Unless it is a gift card to a good place to eat, something perishable that will be used up or sometimes something someone knows I desperately have been wanting. I dont see a need to have it. I buy myself what I deem useful. If this seems mean I am indeed sorry. After all, that is what I am having a problem with. Hurting peoples feelings. Bob and I have even started giving our kids cash for birthdays and holidays so they can buy something useful to them and not getting them something that they wont use and feel obligated to keep. So my question is do we have to keep things just because someone gave it to us? I still have things that family members who have long ago passed gave to me that I think if I get rid of it, they would somehow be disappointed. Sorry for the long post. OPINIONS PLEASE! Oh and if I EVER gave anyone something that you do not want - please dont feel like you have to keep it!
