I never really noticed all the subtleties a voice could convey until I worked as a telemarketer for New York Life Insurance Company of America. After spending ten hours a day talking to people (prospects), I started listening to how they talk, so I started to make a sort of study to make it bearable (laughter). I talk to Chinese, Russians, Ilocano, Kapampangan, Ilongo, Blacks, you name it. Since I have to make a killing, excuse, to make a sale, I created several tones of voice to match their voices, hehehe! But, the more I talk, the more I did not make a sale. Exceptions are those who have sweet voice, polite and engaging. I match them with my English Visayan accent sweet nothings. There are those who are mean, bossy, condescending, irrationally demanding and crankier, but that is a story for another day.
