I never was a fan of mainstream country music because I never really liked pop music, and most country is pop with a steel guitar and a fake southern accent. As I got older, I realized that I actually liked the old country music because it was just a heartbeat from bluegrass. The further it got away, the less difference there is from major country stars and Katy Perry or Niki Manaj (sp? - dont care) Several years ago, a friend introduced me to acid bluegrass and I was hooked. Its basically rock and pop songs performed on traditional bluegrass instruments and sometimes, in traditional bluegrass style. And a lot of times, it is not only good music, but funny as all get out. It hits a cord with me because it takes music that was born in the realm of bigger, fancier, more complicated and gives it re-birth in a simpler, more utilitarian world. Its like a guy that builds a jet engine in his garage using a turbocharger from a diesel truck engine, or someone who home forges a beautiful sword from a bush hog blade. Its the essence of Americana. There are more and more of these acid grass guys showing up all the time. And I for one think that is a good thing. I absolutely LOVE the intro to this video because it sets the exact feel I always get when I see a bunch of backwoods rednecks doing amazing and genius things. H/T StilettoCowgirl Sherry
