I often notice people speaking up and/or bringing attention to issues that they are biased about. Whether it be immigration, kidnapped children in Africa or a particular disability, people often seem to have a personal connection or interest in these issues. Although this tends to aggravate & annoy me, it is something we are allowed to do because of the many glorious rights we have in this country. Those rights however, have been defended & protected by people who served their country, including myself, which is why you could say I am biased about this issue. Did you know that in the United States, there are roughly 50,000 veterans that are homeless? This issue/event was brought to my attention through my school & Columbia College Chicago. On Fri. Dec. 12th, 2014, myself & other veterans will be spending 24 hrs. camping out on the streets of Chicago to raise awareness & money to help this cause. All money raised will be donated to the Midwest Shelter for Homeless Veterans & FeatherFist so that the organizations can provide food, shelters, job placement, outreach, clothing, training & other services to homeless veterans. Their goal is to raise $10,000. Sadly, only $450 have been raised have been raised this far. Im sure if this had been for a different cause, the total raised would be closer to the goal by now.
