I picked up this suet basket back in early Spring off a clearance table, and later, picked up a bag of peanut suet nuggets to fill it with. Since I had my hummingbird feeders hanging, I decided to wait until the Winter to hang it up. The concept is to attract small song birds, and to enjoy watching them pick at the suet.. The reality, especially around here, is Squirrels and Racoons! I give it 48 hours, if that! I have to use Pepper Suet in the back feeders in order to keep the Squirrels and Racoons away from it. I sprayed the deck railing with an organic critter repellent, but, I havent much faith in that. We shall see! Oh, and that sad looking plant next to it, is the remains of my once beautiful and lustrous Hyacinth Vine.. *sigh*
