I ran a few errands this afternoon; was good to get out and do - TopicsExpress

I ran a few errands this afternoon; was good to get out and do some roadside birding. I was driving along one of the major roads here in Boynton Beach and kept stopping to see the Herons, Egrets, Ibis, and dozens of other birds in the water channels. I came to an open grassy area and noticed a large bird sitting on a dilapidated fence post so I stopped, assuming it was a Vulture. I eased the car onto a dirt road and as I got closer, could barely contain myself. It was a young-ish Bald Eagle. I very slowly inched the car closer and closer until I was about 7 from him and sat for 45 minutes watching this magnificent bird. He preened, spread his wings a bit but sat very contentedly - - allowing me to watch him. No, I did not take a photo as I preferred to watch and not chance spooking him. Ive seen many Bald Eagles, but never a wild one from 7 away. This was and will be a highlight for me; to be so close and know that he was comfortable enough not to be afraid. *Heart still fluttering 2 hours later* . . . . :)
