I rarely allow stuff to bug me but the last 2 days Ive been bugged. Im just a tad bit unhappy with our local Chamber of Commerce. After years of them pestering me to join I finally relented and joined 6 or so months ago. And it aint cheap to be a member. Their goal (or so they say) is to promote local businesses. I make a point to buy local FIRST because I want our local small businesses to be successful. Yesterday I received in the mail from the Chamber a discount card for Office Depot. I suppose that is a perk for being a member. However Ive been ordering all my office supplies (toner, pens, whatever) from Lake Area office supplies (locally own and operated). They can get everything I need. I pick up the phone, order, and they deliver it the next day, pronto. There prices are comparable to Office Depot (a national large chain) and delivery is free. Lake Area office is also a Chamber member. Our local Chamber is pushing a big box store over a locally owned store that have the same products and that is really irritating the snot out of me. Whats to keep them from promoting Michaels or Hobby Lobbys framing over mine and our other local frame shop that do really quality framing. I just might not rejoin next year.
