I read a post from a brilliant former student this morning. Ojy Bailey lambasted the people who post 47 soldiers died defending your country today, yet the front page news is about some Disney genie...way to go America. She eloquently spoke of how well she KNOWS Robin Williams and would grieve for any soldier she knows the same way. I responded with what is below: Your post made me sob...frustration, grief...whatever. I posted something very similar when a Paul Walker died. Im not a huge Paul Walker fan, but I know who he is, and it was shocking. Any death is sad, and i was sad for him the same way Im sad for four other people who I heard died in car crashes in Austin this week. This is DIFFERENT because I even know of Robin Williams life long battle. I know he DID fight. I know he DID use his resources. He just lost. :-((. Im so tired of people saying I wont mourn someone who committed suicude. Its selfish. Maybe thats the coping skill of those left behind, but I really believe Robin Williams was in chronic pain. Im just sorry his disease killed him. I know thats NOT the point of your post, but its not really Robin Williams for whom Im mourning. It IS Pvt. John Smith with PTSD, and the football player with post concussion syndrome, and the desperate housewife who has been in and out of rehab for twenty years. The tears and grief are for EVERYONE who struggles. Its just too sad!
