I read an article yesterday from Charisma magazine cant remember the author now but it stirred my spirit. The author spoke of the true mark of discipleship. Where he adduced to the fact that some of the things we consider as discipleship e.g reading our bibles, praying, going to church, been active in church e.t.c are the rudiments and that a true disciple( learner or follower) is evident in what Christ says in synoptic gospel( Matt. 16:24- Then said Jesus unto his disciples, if any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me. , Mark 8:34- And when he had called the people unto him with his disciples also, he said unto them, whosoever will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me. , Luke 9:23- And he said to them all, if any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow me.) when He said if any one will follow Him let such a one deny him/herself take up his/her cross and follow Him. when look in the church today where the word denying oneself is alien and at best treated as an affront. And every now and then Christians are falling into one temptation or the other the church is literally riddled with scandals and every time we seem to come up with the appropriate excuse(grace) then we would say oh he/she was a good Christians, we blame the devil and everyone else but ourselves. And that brings me to the crust of the matter deny yourself. Many in the body today even ministers of God( five folds) find it hard if not seen as a down grading of their anointing and office to deny themselves any privilege or rights due them at any time but would indulge without any discretion all in the name of appropriating their God given rights, privileges and perks. Little wonder while we keep seeing many good Christians enmeshed in scandals every now and then. In the epistles 1 corth. 6:12, The Apostle Paul writes, All things are lawful unto me, but all things are not expedient; all things are lawful for me, but I will not be brought under the power of any. Let me close by asking this question, what have you denied or still denying yourself for the sake of following after Christ. It is quite simple really is either you leave a mark or you become the mark for the devil.
