I read in the local obituaries that my first grade teacher, Joan Davis, has passed away. Wow -- I loved her. I think back ... so many memories ... you know, I started first grade at Gihon Elementary in September 1970!! We learned to read that year using ITA (a very strange and short-lived phonics-based system) that would have been completely new to teachers. I am sure Miss Davis had to work hard that year. Think of how little teachers were paid then. Hmmmm, I think of the impression she made on me. rest in peace.
