I read the status thread through twice, and decided to make a secondary thread instead of adding on and potentially derailing. * I noticed this a few times over the course of the last few sessions, and wanted to stomp this out as hard as I can. The number of status, especially fleeting, you hold doesnt matter. What matters is what you can do with those traits to further your agenda, either passively or actively. Saying I have four status, you have two, I win. makes you a bad person who should feel bad. Theres the Neonate -> Ancilla -> Elder status within the Camarilla, but even those dont simply break down to a Revised-mentality trait bump. Its all in how you use it. Thats why every status trait *does* something. Status bans are mean, not because it drops your upward cap in a Revised direct-comparison way, but because it limits your flexibility. If you decide to make a character who only operates in a very, very narrow slice of the world, then even a GSB can be marginalized...but then youre missing 95% of the Camarilla. God help you if someone targets you. * Speaking of using it...are you? As an Anarch in MES, my situation is a bit bizarre(my best means of rectifying it without engaging in loophole abuse basically boils down to becoming an adopted Canadian). There has been a lot of political shuffling and unrest going on; have you felt the system move within that context? * Stripping status is actually really easy, and yet really difficult for some folks/incredibly satisfying. Anyone can do it. Boiled down to a four step process, heres what you need to do. 1. Learn your mark. What is his status, where is he getting it from, and why. How likely are they to get more standing from his sources? Is it a wide variety of sources, all relatively recently, or does your mark appear to have a singular patron for his activity? 2. Create a scenario in which your mark needs to blow through their fleeting. Be as flagrant or as subtle in this as you wish. 3. Tighten up the flow from patron to mark. 4. Gloat, because thats actually written directly into the book. Youve just advanced the Camarilla! * Harpies(and Primogen, and the remainder of the upper-court...and elders, and ancillae, and people in politics) are usually good at this because theyre vindictive social butterfly/bullies, as opposed to what were used to in Revised-land. Bonus points: Youre enhancing the world around you instead of sounding like the stenographer at a trial procession. All this just to say that the ability to strip status in a Revised-mentality would destroy the status system as presented, as put us back into something that is better ignored wholecloth. Do not like. Stahp.
