I read this a couple years ago and Ive been meaning to go back and plow through it again because Im seeing something I think he described back then, the narcissism expanding from the corporate to the individual. Im beginning to think its simultaneous, that society has devolved into a state of narcissism where specialness of self allows people to judge others who do not meet their standards of specialness. Its a dismissal of differences, a judgement around dissimilar social skill levels, and an intolerance of those who vary too much from what the group thinks and believes is socially acceptable. It is a narcissism that created not just the Teabagging crazies, but extreme groups of all kinds. Have we really become such a nation of reformed sinners wanting everyone to bow down to our new found faith or be damned (shunned, unfriended, whatever you want to call it.) Maybe this period of time will be known in the future as the era of Special Narcissists.
