I really appreciate hearing from all of you and learning of your ongoing involvement regarding important issues facing Indiana and the US. We must remain engaged, too many have allowed themselves to be lured into apathy, thinking their involvement does not matter. Nothing could be further from the truth. We need everyone to remain engaged and voicing your opinion. In fact we need to be more vocal. For Indiana this is a budget year. I wish I had been given the opportunity to be there fighting directly for funding of necessary causes; however, lets not look back but press ahead. Call and or e-mail your elected officials on EVERY issue of import to you. We definitely need to ask for funding of programs which will return great value for every $1 of tax dollars spent. I have found the right thing to do for people is also the right thing to do to get the best value for our tax dollars. We need to bombard our elected officials about these realities. Todays rant: Invest in our children: fund early childhood education for all children; fully pay for school books bringing relief to all households; restore necessary funding to our public schools and stop the flow of public tax dollars to private schools; expand access to healthcare for all children; fully fund services to prevent and detect child abuse; fully fund programs to help with the costs of raising special needs children including those loving individuals who have adopted these children. Please add to this list so we can all know where out state should best place its resources in helping our most valuable resource, our children. I will discuss our criminal code and the recently proposed expenditures for increased prison space; fair wages; positive energy for energy independence; and mental health care in future posts
