I really hope these pictures aptly represent my blush and bashful Steel Magnolia style cake. Yesterday, Jack asked me if I would get his favorite chocolate hamburger cake (from Target) for my birthday. I said no to the hamburger cake, but told him I would get a chocolate cake with white icing and pink flowers, something girly. I thought I communicated my desired cake with the nice bakery lady, but clearly, there was a lapse in communication. What I got is reminiscent of a 1980s prom dress or bridesmaid dress with vanilla cake, milk choc filling and pearlized white buttercream frosting. Yes, the roses are metallic pink with pearlized icing for the beautiful writing. You can imagine our horror when we opened the box to find this inside. Jack, my sweets-loving little boy actually refused to eat this cake, saying, there is NOoooooo way Im eating that! And I had to agree with him. The thought of taking one bite of the metallic-y looking icing turned us all off of sweets. Austin shakes his head leaving the room saying, you should have gone with the hamburger cake mom. Yes, indeed, yes, indeed..... All is not lost though, as I do have a couple of Reeses minis and a glass of red wine. Should be sufficient and this will go down as a very memorable birthday.
