I really love the original BBC Kitchen Nightmares. Like a lot of british shows theres only like what, 14 episodes? But the premise played out on screen legitimately: Gordon Ramsay was going in to help a restaurant on the verge of failure re-purpose itself. Ive found most of the American version frustrating. Edited out of sequence to create false narratives, trumping up drama between the characters of the week, elevating the shouting, the obnoxious voiceovers, the re-caps at the beginning, end, and *every commercial break* which take up almost half the episode, the Michael Bay knockoff synthesizer music (none of these things were part of the BBC version)... to put it in Ramsay terms, I wanted more fresh BBC kitchen nightmares but I gotta settle for the frozen dinner version that is the U.S. remake. That having been said, this current season, despite having most of those annoying American Reality Show tropes, has been an improvement. Regardless of what is staged, phony, or edited out of context, this season at least has *interesting* scenarios and not just some producer going Okay, so we need you guys to act like youre on the verge of divorce if this restaurant fails even if youre not but do it for TV, K?
