I really recommend, if you don’t know about it already, Gorse Journal from Dublin. Edited by Susan Tomaselli, the essays alone in the current issue (#2) are worth the price of entry. Favourites were pieces by Claire-Louise Bennett, Simon Reynolds (‘This Was Tomorrow’ is a very powerful piece looking hard at our current obsession with the past, and how our dreams of a future have died), and best of all, Brian Dillon (mainly because he was discussing Canterbury and Powell & Pressburger). In addition to this, it’s a real thing of beauty on your bookshelf that makes you look clever.
