I receive many questions along the lines of “How do you make it as an actor!?? I’m not aware of a definitive answer but heres an exchange I had with 14 year old Jemma Johnstone from the UK: Jemma Johnstone: Hi Paul, Im a big fan of Arrow and your work and Id love to get some advice, about taking on acting as a career. I see actors like you and wonder how you got to where you are today. I love to sing and act. Ive started Stagecoach (but its more musicals than what i want to do) Im not feeling the love on these. Id like to do more. Star in a TV show like you. Or have people hear me on the radio. But i have no idea how. Ive researched and researched. Please dont scroll onto the next fan message. Because this is my dream. And Im stuck. Its so hard, but to give up would be the worse thing i could do, I want this, more than you can imagine. Surely there is something you could do. Even if its as simple as replying. Thank you (if youre reading this) and i hope you can at least take a few seconds of your time to reply. - Jemma xxx Paul Blackthorne: Jemma! Along with working very hard and taking nothng for granted, listen to your belly and follow your heart. Everyone’s path is different, but ultimately the answers to the direction you should take are right there inside you when you listen... Think about how you can GIVE your talents as an actor - and not what you can GET (i.e so called stardom). This applies to life in general - think about what you can GIVE not what you can GET. And dont think about what you DONT want, think about what you DO want - observe your thoughts - what you THINK about tends to be what happens... Think about that, BUT happiness still exists where you are NOW, so look around and be thankful for what you experience now. When you think about what you’re thankful for, no matter how big or small it is, you become happy and positive, and when you’re in that state of mind, happy positive events come into your life - its WEIRD but TRUE! And most importantly: read Deepak Chopra - Seven Spiritual Laws of Success’ - a short succinct inspirational read. Jemma Johnstone: When i saw i had a message i assumed it was one of my crazy friends or something, but then i saw you had replied and i practically leaped out of my seat. Thank you so much, Im going to have a look at that book you mentioned. Your reply was really eye opening, i looked back at what i had said and a lot of it pretty much was me saying what i didnt want to happen. I do need to be more positive. Thank you again for answering, this is proof that you did care enough to respond.. Definitely gunna look at that book and cant wait for the next episode of Arrow. Ok everyone - how about taking a few seconds to go to Jemma’s page to wish her luck!! xoxoxoxox https://facebook/jemma.bishop.johnstone
