I received a great lesson today by way of achieving a personal best: 405lb on the hack squat. I had just completed an intense fasted spin class with Ben and I was wiped and hungry. I wanted to lift however given the circumstances I assumed the conditions weren’t optimal and thought I’d return to do it “later”. Ben, knowing my fitness goals and the disappointment that “later” often brings, seized the vacant machine and began loading the weight. Wanting to bang it out quickly so I could go home and eat, I complied, and subsequently lifted more than I thought I was capable of lifting today. It’s not about the numbers - I only pay attention so that I can measure my progress while I remain in competition with myself. It’s about breaking down barriers and pushing beyond the limits I have allowed my thoughts to set for me. What I accomplish in the gym is mirrored outside of the gym. Body & mind - connected! Thank you, Ben, for reminding me!
