I received a huge compliment at my most recent ceremony that I absolutely have to share. After the ceremony, I had a grandmother of one of the newlyweds come up to me and ask me how long Ive known the couple. I answered that I hadnt known them for that long but that they were a great couple. She was shocked and told me so. She told me that, based on the ceremony, she assumed Id been a lifelong friend of the couple that had found a way to marry them. She said the ceremony was absolutely perfect for the two of them. She told me she felt the Message to the Bride and Groom that talked about how they met, why they fell in love, that shared the story of the proposal, and that talked about their plans, was told by a good friend that really knew the both of them. She said the entire ceremony was absolutely perfect for them, capturing their personalities. This, to me, is an incredible compliment. If I can give a ceremony so spot on that members of the family think Im a family friend, then Ive done my job well. The compliment wasnt about my public speaking skills, my volume, my diction, the words I chose, or the way I delivered them - it was about how perfect the ceremony was for the couple. Isnt that what a wedding is all about?
