Scott and Kate, Yesterday at around 4 pm, my mission cards arrived in the mail. I sat my two children, ages 5 and 8, down at the kitchen table and told them your familys story and what our job was now that our cards had arrived ! While I intend for this mission to be about Joe and the little girl I am hoping to help, I want to share a little of my familys story for you to understand why reaching out to you for help in accomplishing this mission is so important to us! My son, Eric, has Optic Nerve Hypoplasia/Septo Optic Dysplasia and was born blind and devoid of most of the hormones a persons body must make to survive. Minor illnesses can cause Adrenal Crisis, which can be fatal. Because this condition is rare (although it is the most common cause of blindness!) the community of parents raising children with ONH is small. This morning I woke up to a facebook status from a Haverhill family with a daughter with ONH/SOD that broke my heart. The condition has left little Rhianna, like many other children who share this diagnosis, unable to walk. Recently, her family held fundraisers to help pay for the installation of a wheelchair ramp in the familys home. While their efforts were successful, it appears that their contractor failed inspection on three separate occasions and has now completely disappeared and left the job unfinished. I know that my facebook page only reaches to 300-ish people, while yours has the ability to reach thousands. I was hoping you could share this, and maybe we can find a contractor to finish the job for the family ! I DO know, that they were not finished paying the contractor they have, so they can pay some, but I do not know that the money they have left will cover the remaining expenses of the job.
