I received this from Congressman Gus Bilirakis this morning. I have been trying to figure out what "civil and open dialogue" means to the Congressman. He needs to abandon the Tea Party crazies and Grover Norquist and do what is right for the US economy and its citizens. They all took this oath: "I do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; that I take this obligation freely, without any mental reservation or purpose of evasion; and that I will well and faithfully discharge the duties of the office on which I am about to enter: So help me God." The House and Senate need to fulfill the oath they took. The anxiety, confusion and uncertainty generated by the GOP is likely the principal reason for the malaise in our economy. Those factors are also effectively raping and pillaging our often meager retirement accounts. ============================= Over the past week, I have heard from a number of residents in our district, who have expressed their concerns over the government shutdown. As your Congressman, I remain committed to ending the government shutdown and doing what’s right for the American people. I have voted multiple times to keep the government funded and open and to make sure that Members of Congress face the same consequences under the new health care law as hardworking Americans across this country. In addition, I have signed the necessary paperwork to withhold my pay for as long as the federal government remains shut down. It is my sincere hope that the Senate and the President will join the House of Representatives as soon as possible to engage in a civil and open dialogue. We need to enact a fair solution that serves all Americans, particularly as it relates to the implementation of the health care law. It is unfair that delays have been provided for big business, subsidies given to the politically connected, and waivers allowed for big unions without giving hardworking individuals and families the same break. Please know that I am continuing to work toward a fair solution that brings about a quick resolution. Sincerely, Gus Bilirakis Member of Congress
