I recently had my child come home from school to tell me that she was punished during her lunch time. I asked her about what happened and she retold me the situation. Her seatmate at the lunch table had told her something funny and she laughed. The lunch monitor heard her laugh and sent her to sit alone at another table. A 6 year old child expressed happiness and joy during a break from class time and because of this was sent to cry in seclusion. Why is this ok and why would anyone think this is ok?? We live in a VERY harsh, cruel, and often times depressing world...why cant any child laugh while they eat lunch?? I have many friends who are teachers and I am sure many would disagree with me on this but I say let the children have some time to be HAPPY and if that means more noise at lunch time then so be it! I would gladly go sit in the teachers lounge while they are taking their lunch breaks and insist that there be utter silence and absolutely no laughing...but they wouldnt appreciate that kind of volunteer I dont think. It was terrible to sent my 6 year old child to school today and tell her not to talk or laugh at lunch, really, thats what I had to tell her. In thinking over the situation, I do believe that I will be taking a lot of my lunch breaks from work and eating them with my child at school and we WILL be laughing and giggling and talking to our hearts content, and any other child that wants to join us would be more than welcome!!
