I recently went on a Frijole planting mission with the amazing Costa Rican workers from the Ashram! It was an incredible day of learning! I experienced first hand how much work it takes for us to eat beans! It took 6 men all day to clear the second growth forest for the beans to be planted. Luckily this is a tropical ecosystem so to regrow will take only 18 months - 2 years. Even though it seems that we have decimated the landscape it actually provides incredible mulch for the soil. It is a very co-habitational way of farming. We first cut trails into the jungle, and Didier, the team leader, walked through and spread the beans. We then cleared the entire area.
