I relish the challenges I had to face in my life, that presented - TopicsExpress

I relish the challenges I had to face in my life, that presented me opportunities to do things differently. And almost always for the better. Two years ago, certain events forced me to re-examine my purpose of life. It prompted me to take a self-sabbatical to do social work besides others in the bucket list. This has been something I had always wanted to do. After a while, helping the less fortunate becomes a habit and a way of life. Largely because it is rather therapeutic and something all the wealth I already have cannot buy (one can feel wealthy relatively). Besides what we do at CHOICE Family (Singapore) with a group of like-minded friends and relatives, I try and make a difference to an individual or a family every time I go overseas. It can range from distributing clothes, providing milk powder, battery packs or rice; which is a staple food. Past few trips I have done the latter in a transactional manner. I try to get the families to get their kids to school if they want the supply of rice. This act alone feeds the families and educates kids. And what I had not realised, until my NGO-friend highlighted, is that such acts potentially takes kids away fm the possibility of abuse; engendered of course by starvation. It also obviates the need for some of these families to contemplate suicide as an option (this is real). So, WHAT is my point? In your own ways I urge all my friends, relatives and acquaintances to do your bit, locally or otherwise. Sometimes I think I might have started a little late but nevertheless am glad I did start. So, when you are ready, just pay forward in ways you think is appropriate. I believe founding Choice Family (Singapore) was just the beginning. I now have more than 400 families to care. This, I see, as my purpose in life; whatever is left of it! To all my friends and relatives who had stood by me during my life-changing moments, a big Thank You!
