I remember back in 2008 when i graduated in Music at UP with better than expected results, everyone was congratulating me and saying how good I was. I respectfully accepted their congratulations but quickly pointed out that as a second degree holder (I graduated from a previous college course already), it should be expected of me to graduate with the results I attained especially since I had the resources (because I was already working) and I had a great support group (family, friends and a girlfriend). It was those people who came in fresh from high school and toed the line in the same five years of college with me that graduated with the same results or even better that really deserved the praises and adoration. Those who went through the same ordeal as I did but instead had to commute here and there (I was lent a car by my dad), carry their bags and loads while riding the jeeps and buses, sleep at their dorm away from their love ones, and had to photocopy their books by chapter (due to lack of stable funds), those are the people that truly worked hard and put up an effort. Today my Alma mater fell short again of their aspirations of being the 77th UAAP Cheerdance Champion. The privilege of having the bragging rights for the next 365 days is not in our grasp. No. I will not say it is ok. For to say that is to insult the hard work that my schoolmates have done for the past countless number of days and hours. But this I say to my dear UP Cheerdancers. Hold your head high!!! For your pride is not that we only garnered 1st runner up, but that in spite of the fact that we are under funded, for the fact that we have to live out of our own allowance, and the fact that our support is limited, we have shown the world that true school spirit and hard work can bring us this far. That in spite of the fact that our school budget is cut by a government that deems other project with more priority, we stand by our philosophy that we can be EQUALS with the rest of them and that the school spirit of giving our best will always produce consistency that solicits respects from our peers and competitors. I will ALWAYS BE PROUD to be a maroon. Win or Lose, the heart of a true CHAMPION....UP FIGHT!!! #UPFIGHT
