I remember meeting now superproducer J.R. Rotem at a music conference Jay King from Club Nouveau held in downtown Sacramento. Had to be 2001 or so. Dude gave me two beat CDs and said he really wanted to work with me. I listened to the beats, liked some, and called him a few days later. Dude was selling his beats for $500 a pop. Not bad but KINDA steep for a unknown producer. I was interested but ended up going with producers who were just as talented (maybe more). About a year and a half later or so J.R. Rotem had produced for Jay-Z, 50 Cent, Rihanna, The Game, put out Sean Kingston, and is now one of the most sought after producers in the game. Those beats go for 30k easy.
