I remember my dads favorite beach in all of Cuba (and he knew the island inside out)... Jibacoa (Matanzas), which I am sure is a native/aboriginal indian name. What a beautiful and magical place for me and my brother and sister (we were all little kids). Youd walk through the lush tropical forest trails in the hills, and then all of a sudden would come up to that amazing white sand beach, with the coral reef just a few feet from shore (one of the attached images if you click on it, shows this amazing spot). The was the last place we went before leaving forever (1969), and we stayed at my dads friends pink and white cottage by the beach, having the place to ourselves (it was an artist who owned it but I dont remember the name -- should ask my mom though...). Wed swim and snorkel all day. And my dad snuck a pig roast under the governments eyes, which we shared with the locals, and I remember everyones initial wariness while roasting the pig, and eventual in the moment happiness as the feast took place without incident. I also remember a quiet early morning walk near the cottage by the beach with just me and my dad, with no wind and dew on the leaves, and coming quietly upon a hummingbird just a foot away from us sipping nectar from the wildflowers while we stood there and awed at the tiny birds innate grace (kids love tiny things you know)... It was a special moment which I shared with my dad, in this special place which he loved so much and I do too thanks to him and my mom. You could not buy such an experience nor the fondness I feel for my parents. Peace!
