I remembered five years ago being in East New York laughing and joking with colleagues waiting for my shit to end, sadly to say it was the beginning of a nightmare. I remembered getting several phone calls from aunts and cousins hysterically crying saying Have you heard from your dad and brothers, everyone is dead. Unbeknownst to me, there was a major earthquake that just hit Haiti, my town Leogane being the epicenter. I automatically froze, saddened and unable to process such thought of an earthquake occurring in Haiti yet along burying loved ones. Prior to that Ive been to so many funerals and seeing many dead bodies buried, however not once as I ever shed a tear. This time it was different. As I stood up, the tears kept coming down slowly and slowly as I wipe my face uncontrollably. I began to understand those tears were not only for losing loved ones and family members but also for a whole nation, distant brothers and sisters suffering the same loss. I quickly realized afterwards the true meaning of being Haitian, strong, proud, resilient, always facing adversity and proud to say I wouldnt want to be anyone else in this world but Haitian! #RIP #NeverForget #Ayiti #HaitiEarthquake
