I saw American Sniper this weekend and loved it. It was a well produced, well acted and well directed movie. It was also a unabashed masterpiece of pro-war propaganda. As we left the theater on the way home, I told Lok that the only difference in this movie (and others such as Zero-Dark-Thirty, Lone Survivor) and war propaganda that other nations have put out (past and present) is the quality and entertainment value of it. Propaganda films are a cold, hard fact and is a well known tactic that governments have been using to rally their populous for as long as their has been war. Just because its pro-American, pro-military and pro-war propaganda doesnt mean it wasnt a kick ass movie. It doesnt lessen Chris Kyles standing as a BAMF, the real life sacrifices of some of the members of our Armed Forces it showed or even Bradley Coopers dedication to his role, it is what it is.
