I saw LONE SURVIVOR, a well-made military film, the realism of which reminds me of BLACKHAWK DOWN, another military film based on actual events. Whenever I see a combat film this intense, Im reminded of the military hospitals I visited when I was part of the first USO authors tour to a war zone: Iraq in 2010. For a harrowing six hours, I spoke with numerous veterans who lost arms and legs (sometimes all of them) in combat. No matter what had happened to them, all of them wished that they could go back to their units. That loyalty to the unit (and how that loyalty is created) is what LONE SURVIVOR dramatizes.
