I saw a posted picture with some National Conference delegates - TopicsExpress

I saw a posted picture with some National Conference delegates allegedly sleeping. Two reactions were how can these tired old men represent us and how can we expect anything good from men over sixty? While come nations associate age with wisdom, some vocal segment in Nigeria associate age with retrogression. Except for Alexander Hamilton the top framers of what is unarguably the most compact and democratic condtitution in the world were oldies. For over two hundred years there are less than thirty amendments to the United States constitution. In China, you dont become Premier or President until you go through a progression - a grooming process that leaves top national positions to men over fifty five. Is Tunji Braithwait at over eighty not a voice to be heard. How about Chief Ayo Adebanjo, Chief Olu Falae. One only wishes Prof Ben Nwabueze, foremost Constitutional lawyer, Dr. Alex Ekwueme and Alhaji Balarabe Musa were also there. Yes its Nigerias future, mostly the future of youth. Hopefully the students representstives, the younger element among the representatives will be there to contribute adequately. A good sign is that neither retired Chief Justice Kutigi, Prof. Bolaji Akinyemi and Prof. Azinge are sleepy but vibrant presiding officers. Even sleeping President Robert Mugabe stayed awake enough to take a jibe at Nigeria and corruption. Intelligence, good health, fairness, open mindedness and patriorism are what we must insists from our representatives. When shove comes to push, everyone of them will be alert.
