I saw the film Escape Plan last night, its another one of these new films that they have been making with the old action stars. This one had Stallone and Schwarzenegger (one of his best rolls I might add), together at last... And who cares at this point. There is this weird thing that happened a few years back with The Expendables, and now all the old action heroes of our youth are with new ones passing the torch and yada yada yada. Only they didnt pass anything they saw it as their tickets back into the scene, and we bought it. So now there is a slew of films coming out staring all the old action stars of our youth. And the whole time your watching it, your hearing the pitch from Stallone we gonna do a throw back piece, like how we did it back in the day, gonna be great. Only they are not great, they are odd feeling, and play out like a dated formula that has not been used in 15 years. The acting is so subpar from these guys, and once the nostalgia factor washes off, your left watching 70 year old men trying to recapture a time when they were the kings. And they were! When I heard about Expendables I about shit myself, all the heroes of my youth in one more ultra mega super action movie?! Omg yes this cant suck. But it did suck, and the film didnt deliver on action, or one liners. And since that now all these old guys are making a comeback. But its no comeback, its a throwback. See the thing is you never watched the old action movies to get good acting and story, you did it for fun factor. Hollywood is a new machine, and story telling, presentation, and overall feel is so different now. But here I am getting suckered in with the rest of us by these terrible throwback films. They really need to step back and look at why Bruce Willis is where he is career wise, or even look at someone like Mickey Rourke who took the right kind of roll for someone of his age and build to rekindle his acting career in the right direction. Stallone in particular, your a terrible director, and your acting is probably the worst its been in years. Its alright to age, lets do it gracefully
