I saw the taping of the original Broadway Cast of Into the Woods - TopicsExpress

I saw the taping of the original Broadway Cast of Into the Woods with my best friend in high school drama class. We LIVED Into the Woods as we grew up. We constantly watched, listened, quoted, sung, and made small and large life decisions based on it. We still did that into our thirties and from across the country. Seven and a half years ago, I lost my best friend to bipolar disorder. I hadnt seen or listened to this, my favorite musical since. Ive never seen it live because no one could possibly even come close to that original production. When I heard they were making a movie, I knew Id have to see it. I feared I would be disappointed, but thought maybe I could still enjoy it as long as it was one fourth as good. I read about the changes, the Disney-fication, and knew it was doomed. I decided to see it anyway, assuming it would be beautifully produced and well-acted and sung, but it would never get it. I just got back from seeing it with my family. I went in assuming I would really dislike, if not hate it. Of course there were changes, songs left unsung, plot points eliminated that I disagree with. We can pick apart any movie, and this is no different. But, after seeing it, if you arent moved or choose not to like it because it wasnt be exactly what you wanted, you are just being a snob. And you have no soul.
